Open in Google Maps → Getting here🌿 Secret Path — via Karpfenteich
From S-Bhf Plänterwald, head to the Karpfenteich (carp pond). Follow the canal path south through the neighboring Kleingartenkolonie, then under the S-Bahn tracks through the tunnel. The garden gate is right there. Green, quiet, magical — the best way.
🛤️ Secret Path — via Karpfenteichstraße
Walk along Karpfenteichstraße next to the S-Bahn tracks. Enter the Gartenkolonie from the west side. Shorter but less scenic.
🚶 Via Kiefholzstraße
From Kiefholzstr. 350, the garden entrance is directly accessible from the street. Easier when carrying heavy things or arriving by car.
Nearest station: S-Bhf Plänterwald (S8, S9, S45, S46, S47, S85)
- Exit S-Bhf Plänterwald towards Karpfenteich.
- Walk along the canal path for about 5–7 minutes.
- Cross under the train tracks — the garden entrance is right after.
Tip: Trains run every 10–20 min. Use the VBB app or Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe website for live schedules. From Ostkreuz it's just 2 stops.
ParkingWhere: Kiefholzstraße, near the garden entrance. Especially on weekends it's usually fine.
🏡Kleingartenanlage Rules

- Extra guests? Give the owner a heads-up first.
- Paths: Keep the shared walkways clear — no jungle takeover.
- Neighbors: A friendly "Hallo!" goes a really long way here.
- Pets: Only with prior arrangement.

♻️Trash & Compost
Germany takes waste separation pretty seriously — here's a quick guide:
Restmüll
General waste, diapers, ceramics
Wertstofftonne (yellow)
Plastic & metal packaging, yoghurt cups, plastic bottles, tetrapaks, cans, aluminium foil, spray cans. Also: broken plastic buckets, pots, pans, plastic toys, watering cans, clothes hangers.
Papier
Cardboard, newspapers, paper bags
Glas
Jars & bottles (by color at the container)
Toss it in
- Fruit & veggie scraps
- Coffee grounds & tea
- Eggshells
- Small garden waste
- Leaves & grass
Keep it out
- Meat, fish, bones
- Dairy
- Cooked leftovers
- Pet waste
- Sick plants
- Citrus fruits
Wertstofftonne (yellow): Every second Monday, ~9 AM.
Restmüll (black): Every second Wednesday (same week), ~9 AM.
Put bins out by the street the evening before.
Don't forget to bring the bins back after they've been emptied.
BSR App: Download the BSR Abfuhrkalender and add Kiefholzstr. 350 to see the exact schedule including holidays. It can even send you a reminder the day before.
The black bin goes all the way onto the street, handlebar facing the street for easy pickup.

💧Water
Water here is a seasonal luxury — here's the deal:
- Water ON: Usually mid/late April, weather permitting. The Vorstand will announce it.
- Water OFF: Usually mid/late October. All outdoor pipes get drained for winter.
- Main valve: TBA — turn clockwise to shut off.
- Garden tap: See map below.
🔥Heating & Grill
No wood stove installed — the chimney will be removed. Here's what there is instead:
- Electric heating: Will be set up before it gets cold.
- Grill: Location TBA. No open fires or fire bowls — only the grill, and check for summer fire bans.
🍳Swapping the Gas Bottle
The kitchen stove runs on propane. Swapping the bottle is simple:
- Close the valve on the current bottle (clockwise, until snug).
- Unscrew the regulator — no tools, just hand-tight.
- Swap the empty bottle out. Set it aside.
- Place a fresh one from [STORAGE LOCATION].
- Screw the regulator back on, hand-tight.
- Open the valve slowly. Sniff around — if you smell gas, tighten a bit more.
- Test by lighting one burner for a moment.
⚡Electricity & Fuses
Total capacity: 4 kW. The small fuse box is in the main room on the right.
Power gone? Check the fuse box. A lever down? Push it back up. Trips again right away? Unplug the last thing you connected and retry.
🚿Bathroom & Toilet
- Type: [Chemical / compost / outhouse / indoor]
- How it works: [Instructions specific to the toilet type]
- Don't flush: Anything beyond [toilet paper / nothing]. No wet wipes, no tampons — the plumbing will thank you.
- Emptying: [When/how to empty, if applicable]
🌱Garden Tools
- Found in: [SHED / TOOL BOX — LOCATION]
- What's there: Spade, rake, hoe, secateurs, watering can, wheelbarrow [adjust]
- A quick rinse after use is much appreciated — put them back where you found them.
- Watering tip: Early morning or evening is best. Not in the blazing midday sun.
🌳Garden & Planting
What's growing on the plot:
- Fruit trees: Cherry, plum, and apple.
- 3 Hochbeete (raised beds) — various fruits, legumes, and vegetables.
- Beet (row bed) — potatoes and more.
- Feel free to water, weed, and harvest what's ripe. Just leave some for the next guests.
- There's a hammock — best hung between the cherry and plum tree. Highly recommended on slow afternoons.

👋The Neighbors
These lovely people garden next door — say hi!
If neighbors are around, keep the music low — sound carries far in a garden colony.
🦊Local Wildlife
Some creatures you might run into:
- 🦫 Beaver: One's been spotted around here, chewing on trees nearby.
- Slugs, ants, rats & mosquitoes. Standard garden crew.
- Ticks: Less of a problem here — but still check after a long day in the grass.
- 🦝 Raccoons: Rumor has it they lived under the roof for a while — haven't seen any so far. The neighbor had some under his roof but managed to lock them out. They may look cute but can defend themselves and even open simple locking mechanisms.
- 🦗 Maulwurfsgrille (mole cricket): The one the neighbors hate — and they're very animal-friendly people. It eats the roots of your beloved plants and can be very noisy at dusk. My neighbors chop it in two to be sure it's gone, as it survives strong punches.

- That's why 1 € — everything was overgrown and in bad shape.
- Neighbor Mike (south side) has been on his plot for ~27 years.
